B is for Boys' Baylor Basketball

For our alphabet dates we thought it would be easier if I planned one letter and Scott planned the next. Well, order hasn't necessarily been the priority so far, but Scott was thrilled to plan our B date. Our date had "boy-planned-this" written all over it!

On Friday we put on our good ol' green and gold attire, and headed to Reliant Stadium to cheer on our Men's Basketball team, who played St. Mary's for a spot in the Elite 8. It was great to see Scott so excited, and to catch a break from law school world. And I can't lie, I had fun too! We won 72-49!!!!!!

It was great to see some of our friends, and to see how many people came to support our team in the Sweet 16 Tournament. On Sunday, we played Duke, and although we didn't make it to the Final 4, we put on a good fight, and... the Lady Bears did make it, so.... Sic'em Bears!

Ps. Why didn't any of this take place while I was still a student at Baylor? :(

V-Dub

 {via here}

My car is once again headed to the shop. What is this? Only the 500 thousand visit! I am so fed up with how often my car breaks that is has pretty much become one of Scott's "boyfriend" duties to take it in, fight for a more reasonable price, and bring it back to me in one piece until it breaks again. I am so thankful for him!

So, as an angry, I-need-to-vent post, I DO NOT LIKE VDUBs, and I hereby promise to not get one ever again.

(Photo above represents the age my car thinks it is, nevermind its only 5 years old!)

Martha, Martha, Martha...

Yesterday I woke up in a "Martha Stewart" mood. Sometimes, aside from the legal issues of the past, I want to be like her. She is so proper, knows everything there is to know about home decorating, entertaining, gardening, crafts, food, etiquette... You name it, Martha knows it! It makes me wonder how she can make everything she makes look so effortless, unique, creative, clever, thrifty, useful, organized, unconventional, and beautiful.

These moods don't come too often. I try to be organized and neat, but work and... work (can't blame it on anything else, can I?) get in the way and it always looks like a tornado went through my room. So trying to be more like Martha implied making my bed as soon as I woke up, check! Thoroughly cleaning the apt (doing dishes, laundry, vacuuming, dusting...) check! Putting everything in its place, check! Hang decorations that have been waiting to be hung for about 2 months, not check! I failed at this one because I either depend on Scott too much for handy-man tasks, or because it was 10pm when I realized I didn't have the right kind of nails for the job.

Hopefully I can finish all the work soon, and post pictures of the new (clean and organized) apt! Ps. If you are as O.C.D as I am, check out Martha Stewart's checklists! Love them!

(skip B) C is for California!

My out of the norm week couldn't have ended on a better note. Scott and I went to Temecula, California for the weekend for Jill and Chris' wedding (Scott's sister and new brother-in-law). It was quite the adventure! While we have both had a chance to travel a bit before, we hadn't traveled just the two of us, and it proved to be really fun. We have decided, once we have money, to travel a lot in the future.

We left Houston on Friday evening, and arrived in San Diego. Got our rental car and drove to Temecula. My only request for the trip was to go to In-N-Out. I have been to California before, but you know, if you are traveling with Jorge Quijano, you won't be eating fast food, so I had never been to the renowned restaurant.

Please don't shoot me, but I didn't think it was that great after all. It was a good burger, but I am used to having a lot of choices and bigger burgers. Plus, what is it with the not-so-secret secret menu and the unknown "spread"?

Anyways, Saturday we were all in wedding mood. The ceremony and the reception took place at a vineyard, and although the weather was questionable (cold and rainy), we all had a good time. I wish I had taken more pictures. Congrats to Jill and Chris!!!!!!! Ps. Best moment of the wedding: Scott's Grandfather dancing to the Black Eyed Peas! So cute!

Thank you, Skype!

Now that Nana (my sis) is in school, and too busy to Skype with me, it is rare when we get to talk for hours about everything and anything. Thursday night, adding to my out-of-the-norm week, we skyped for about 2 hours. We caught up with her eventful life, my recent purchases and "gossip" (not much now that I am not on Facebook).

I had a lot of things to do that night (getting ready for the wknd), but she wanted to stay on Skype, so my solution: set the computer in front of the TV, and let her enjoy that night's episode of The Office. I am so thankful for Skype! It makes the distance between Houston and Bogota a bit shorter, and even allows for enjoyment of American TV shows.

Little Bitty Rodeo

Last week was totally out of the normal routine and was a really nice change of pace. It all began on Tuesday night. Cristina asked me to accompany her and The Youngers to the opening day of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo! We enjoyed great greasy food, funnel cake, a great drink at the "International Room" and an awesome concert by Alan Jackson.

Sadly, I do not know any of his songs, and the only one I recognized was "Little Bitty", only because Cristina played it while getting ready to go! lol. I definitely want to go back, possibly play some games, eat something that is normally not fried and doesn't comply with any health standards, and shop for cheesy Texan paraphernalia.

Seasons

{from here}
Over the years I have tried to become the type of person that takes joy in things that we usually take for granted.  Going from a country where winter means sole rain, and it usually lasts about 6 months, to a country where the length of winter is determined by the behavior of a groundhog, I have learned to enjoy the changing seasons.

Yesterday on my drive home from work I got stuck at a red light, but this time, I enjoyed it. To my right it was so sunny and bright. The picture I captured on my phone was barely visible. To my left, the gray clouds of the coming storm looked like they were devouring the office buildings. Needless to say, weather in the States has a whole different meaning than anywhere else, and I hope Spring gets here very very soon. The half-warm+half-cold days are not very fun, wardrobe choices are difficult to make. But, it gives me an excuse to stay home and watch pointless shows, like the finale of the Bachelor.

I promised myself I would not watch another cheesy show, but then they announced the line up for Dancing with the Stars... I guess I also enjoy the other meaning of the word "seasons" (the TV meaning, that is).
